GapMinder is an online time-waster (that might sometimes be considered a useful tool) that helps visualize many different statistics from different countries into a single neat graph. In this photo, I'm comparing the Sulfur emissions per person (y axis) to the % of self-employment (x axis) to CO2 emissions (size of bubble) in different countries. It's cool to mess around with, especially the effect of time on the numbers (you can scroll through the years to compare).

World Map Info
This website "Charts Bin" dedicates itself to interesting and/or weird information of countries around the globe in an interactive way- it's pretty cool! One of the cooler ones is the coffee per capita of almost every country, neat! Image found: here.

Science Conspiracies
Lots of people believe, that the "Large Hadron Collider", will destroy the world, similarly to making a wee version of a sun using 192 uber powerful lasers (see the article for more information) by 2022.
Also, an extremely popular video explaining in vague details what the LHC does can be found here.
A pretty good video proving the LHC conspiracy is "Science!" (though it goes off topic quite a bit).

IYA2009
This year is the International Year of Astronomy. It has many major goals but only 2 will affect the common people: Increase scientific awareness and increase widespread knowledge of the subject. The other goals are to improve/ create better astronomic tools and activities including 100 Hours of Astronomy. Their official website can be found at Astronomy2009.org.

WorldMapper
"Worldmapper is a collection of world maps, where territories are re-sized on each map according to the subject of interest.
There are now nearly 600 maps."
This map shows refugee origins: countries that more people try to escape from are shown larger. Not too many people are refugees from Canada, the USA, or Mexico, so North America appears as a spidery line. Some tiny countries in the Middle East and Africa are huge.
Check out the toy exports map.
