No need for a speech

The ever smiling Hodja Nasreddin - most well k...Image via Wikipedia

I am fond of the stories of the Sufi mystic Nasreddin. Once I found one of his stories in a comic that came inside a piece of gum. This one comes from the Wikipedia article about him:

" Once, Nasreddin was invited to deliver a khutba( speech) which he really didn't want to do. When he got on the minbar (pulpit), he asked, "Do you know what I am going to say?" The audience replied "NO", so he announced, "I have no desire to speak to people who don't even know what I will be talking about!" and he left.

The people felt embarrassed and called him back again the next day. This time, when he asked the same question, the people replied "YES". So Nasreddin said, "Well, since you already know what I am going to say, I won't waste any more of your time!" and he left.

Now the people were really perplexed. They decided to try one more time and once again invited the Mullah to speak the following week. Once again he asked the same question - "Do you know what I am going to say?" Now the people were prepared and so half of them answered "YES" while the other half replied "NO". So Nasreddin said "The half who know what I am going to say, tell it to the other half," and he left."

Apple orders 10-inch touchscreens for third quarter

Photograph showing Apple Newton hand held comp...Image via Wikipedia

Rumours have been around for a while that Apple was developing a 'netpad', essentially a cross between an iPod touch and a notebook computer. This seems to be more likely than ever now that there is news that Apple has ordered 10-inch touch screens:

"Apple will take third-quarter delivery of newly developed 10-inch touchscreens from Taiwan, a source said on Wednesday, amid talk the U.S. firm is developing a touchscreen PC.

Taiwan touchscreen specialist Wintek already makes small screens for Apple iPhones, and has received orders for the larger ones that are roughly the same size as those used in mini PCs, said the source close to the Taiwan firm. He asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to talk to the media."

The image shows Apple's first touchscreen device, the failed Newton, which came out before the technology was really ready for it. It sucked.

BTW, this is the 1000th blog post!
